Bougainvillea is not the most typical houseplant, often grown outdoor for its bright colourful blooms; however, it can become a well-adjusted houseplant. Big clusters of brightly coloured bracts in pink, red, orange or purple will cover this plant. The papery bracts surround small, creamy white flowers. Those arching branches are also covered with thorns, so be careful when handling them!
Water: Low. Bougainvillea is a drought tolerant plant that should be kept on the dry side. Allow the top 50% of the soil to dry out before watering.
Sun: Bright direct sun. Bougainvillea requires full sun exposure for at least 5-6 hours every day in order to bloom.
Placement: Place as close to a south or west facing window as possible.
Pets: Not pet friendly!
