Prayer Plants feature unique foliage with feathered, painterly-like veins. Prayer Plants get their name from the way the leaves fold in the evening, resembling hands folded in prayer. Prayer plants have a reputation for being finicky but they can be an easy going plant – – place it in a brightly lit spot, keep it’s soil damp, and mist it’s leaves once a week and it will flourish.
Water: Medium. Keep the soil consistently moist when your Prayer Plant is actively growing in spring and summer, but reduce water from fall through late winter. Keep the soil moist but not soggy.
Sun: Medium to Bright Indirect. Too much sun will fade the leaves and direct sun will burn.
Placement: The bold foliage of these plants make them perfect for window sills, mantles, or shelves that need a splash of color.
Plant Parent Care Tips:
- Prayer Plants plants love moisture and humidity, so mist often! The leaves will turn brown and crispy when the air is too dry.
- The leaves of Prayer Plants follow the light. You’ll notice the leaves folded in and more compact at night, while they open up with the sun each day. Turn the container weekly so all sides of the plant receive the same amount of light.
- When watering, use lukewarm water and make sure to water the soil, not the leaves. Water sitting on the leaves can cause leaf spot bacteria.
